Wheat Grinders--which is best for you?

When it comes to Wheat grinders, grain mills, flour mills, or whatever you choose to call them, there aren't a lot of choices, but fortunately, what choices we have are good. We have found several wheat grinders that we consider the best. Most grinders available today do not do both electric and hand grinding. Remember how the old stone grinders could supposedly be hooked up to a bicycle in the event of power failure? Most of those machines never made the transition very well, although we never had the occasion to try it personally. Getting those big stones to work by hand is no picnic either. Sources we have consulted such as Providentliving.org now recommends against having a machine that does both.  The Wonder Junior Deluxe Hand Mill wheat grinder, a stone and steel burr grain mill, is a great investment for emergency preparedness.  This hand crank wheat grinder will grind peanut and other nut butters, wet and oily seeds, with the steel burrs, and all dry grains with the stone burrs. Adjustable coarseness for cracked wheat, to pastry flour. Heavy duty, affordably priced, and versatile, the Wonder Junior Deluxe Hand Mill gives the security of knowing you are prepared. The Wonder Jr. is said to be the World's #1 Hand Grinder Grain Mill, and we believe, the best!

The two leading electric wheat grinder grain mills, the WonderMill and the Nutrimill, are both quality machines, that are not nearly as noisy as the old stone wheat grinders. Micronizing steel burr heads make it possible to grind small grains such as rice, and beans as large as garbanzos. The WonderMill grinds up to 100 pounds of flour in one hour, and the Nutrimill makes similar claims (a big improvement over the old stone grain mill wheat grinders that were slow and overheated easily) Both grinders have other advantages and disadvantages.

The WonderMill is the World's #1 rated grain mill. We like:

     1) the convenience of the flour being deposited directly in the storage canister, that can then be moved to the refrigerator.         Extra canisters are available for purchase, which for a big family, is a premium!

     2) This wheat grinder is UL listed.

    Some disadvantages:

    1) The WonderMill should not be turned off during the milling cycle, but can be unclogged if it is necessary to turn it off. Ours     didn't clog when we had to turn it off during the milling cycle.

       2) Not suitable for large or frequent amounts of pastry flour

        The Nutrimill's advantages:

    1) Self-contained, with a pull-out bowl. Flour can then be placed in another container.

    2) The mill can be turned off during the milling cycle without clogging.

    3) The claim is that this mill can grind unlimited amounts of pastry flour, but this has not been our experience. We used both,     and had more success with the WonderMill.

     Disadvantage:

     1) This wheat grinder is NOT UL listed.
